From Classroom to Online Business: My Conversation on The Solopreneur Sisterhood Podcast
I recently joined The Solopreneur Sisterhood Podcast to talk about my journey from spending 15 years in education to building a successful virtual assistant and online business management practice.
In this conversation, we explored how transferable skills from teaching — organization, leadership, communication, and problem-solving — can translate directly into running a thriving online business. One of the biggest myths I see is that you need formal business experience before starting. In reality, many of the skills people already have are exactly what business owners need support with.
We also discussed what virtual assistants can actually do today, from foundational administrative support to complex system building and operations management, as well as how to know when it’s time to take courses, find clients, and scale responsibly.
For business owners, we touched on how to prepare for hiring a virtual assistant for the first time and why having the right systems in place makes that relationship successful for everyone involved.
One line from the episode sums it up perfectly:
“If you wait until you’re ready, you’ll never do it.”
